Mourners line streets for funeral of Southport victim Alice Da Silva Aguiar

Nine-year-old’s coffin carried to St Patrick’s Catholic Church on a white, horse-drawn carriage

Hundreds of mourners have lined the streets of Southport for the funeral of one of the victims of the knife attack in the town last month.
Alice Da Silva Aguiar, nine, was killed alongside two other young girls during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. 
Bebe King, six, and seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe were also killed in the attack on July 29. Eight other children and two adults were wounded.
Alice’s funeral took place in St Patrick’s Catholic Church on Marshside Road, Southport, at 2pm on Sunday. 
The nine-year-old’s coffin was carried to the ceremony on a white, horse-drawn carriage.
The family later shared s collection of pictures in tribute, including one taken only hours before she was killed.
The service will be followed by a cremation and a wake at Crossens Community Centre.
The funeral and cremation will be private, with people unable to enter the ceremony uninvited.
On Monday, a vigil was held outside an arts venue where thousands have laid flowers, teddy bears and balloons in memory of the three schoolgirls, to mark one week since the tragedy.
Mourners blew bubbles into the air as songs were sung in a heartfelt moment of solidarity.
Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 18, who was born in Cardiff to Rwandan parents, has been charged with three counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder.
